Glen Rock is a Bergen County community located 23 miles northwest of Midtown Manhattan. The neighborhood combines an inviting, small-town feel with the convenience of being a commuter-friendly New York City suburb, with two train lines connecting to Penn Station in as little as 42 minutes. Homes in Glen Park are within walking distance of its vibrant downtown area, and the community contains a number of top-rated public schools with the High School Ranking #2 in New Jersey.
One of Glen Rock’s most attractive features is its eclectic housing mix, with similar styles typically grouped together in quiet, tree-lined neighborhoods. Craftsman Bungalows abound within Glen Rock’s center, while spacious contemporary Colonials cover Dunham Place and Glen Rock’s northwest. Ranch-style homes and splits dominate in the east.
Most Glen Rock residents find that this is a perfect place to lay down roots, with friendly neighbors and community-focused events. There are expanses of unspoiled natural space to explore nearby, while the community is within easy reach of all that New York City has to offer.
Rock Road runs through the heart of Glen Rock, and most commercial activity is centered along this street and those running off it. Glen Rock Inn has been a cornerstone of the community since 1948, with friendly staff serving good pub food and drinks in an inviting setting with live entertainment. Locally-run businesses include Rock Ridge Pharmacy, which combines a full-service pharmacy with a wide selection of gifts and other items.
Marc’s Cheesecake specializes in “sinfully good” cheesecake, plus ice creams and sandwiches. Kilroy’s Wonder Market has been Glen Rock’s go-to grocery store since 1916, selling groceries and an array of beers, wines, and spirits. Kilroy’s also has a notably large offering of gluten-free products.
Glen Rock’s symbolic landmark is a giant boulder that was pushed into the area by a glacier during the last Ice Age. Known to locals as The Rock, this 570-ton icon sits at the center of the town, right next to Glen Rock Main Line train station. Glen Rock Municipal Pool has a children’s pool and an Olympic-sized, eight-lane main pool, with diving boards and a 25-foot slide. The wonderful natural space of Thielke Arboretum extends over 11 acres, featuring wetland forest, trails, gardens, a brook, and a spring-fed pond. Sprawling Saddle Rock County Park extends over close to 600 acres, with Glen Rock Duck Pond lying close to its Glen Rock entrance.
Glen Rock has excellent public schools through the Glen Rock Public School District.
